The Regional Phase of MegaSprinter 2017/18 will take place at Laranjeiras Sports Hall in Ponta Delgada next Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10. It will involve the participation of about 90 students, aged between 9 and 15.
 
Promoted by the Regional Directorate for Sport (DRD), through the São Miguel Sports Service, the event involves students from the islands of São Miguel, Terceira, Faial, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico and Santa Maria, who will be accompanied by seven teachers.
 
The Regional Directorate for Sport has been promoting this initiative for the 13th consecutive year with the aim discovering young people with speed and jump skills. It also intends to improve the offer of physical activities in school context and select the Region's representatives in the National Phase of MegaSprinter, which will be held at the University Stadium of Lisbon on March 23 and 24.
 
The students selected to the national phase are the winners of the children's levels (A and B) and beginner's levels in male/female categories, provided they meet the stipulated minimum requirements (time and marks).
 
On Friday, before the MegaSprinter competition, there will be a technical improvement workshop promoted by the São Miguel Athletics Association. The activity will be conducted by technicians José Neves, Rui Durão and Paulo Costa.
