Regional Government begins Wednesday statutory visit to São Jorge Island

The Regional Government begins Wednesday the statutory visit to São Jorge Island, where Vasco Cordeiro, among other events, will open the expansion works of Velas Cold Storage Unit and the Calheta Health Centre, in addition to visiting ongoing works and presiding over the presentation of new investments for this island.
The programme of this statutory visit, an initiative intended to strengthen the proximity to Azorean citizens, also includes a moment when the members of the Regional Government will be available to receive the local citizens who wish to pose their questions directly to them.
At the end of Wednesday morning, shortly after arriving on São Jorge Island, Vasco Cordeiro presides over the opening ceremony of the upgrading and expansion works of Velas Cold Storage Unit, representing an investment of more than one million Euros in this area of the fisheries sector.
In the afternoon, the President of the Government chairs the presentation of the project for the second phase of the expansion and redevelopment works of João Inácio de Sousa Nursing Home, which also includes the signing of a cooperation agreement with that institution. He will then meet with the Mayors of Velas, Luís Silveira, and Calheta, Décio Pereira, ending this first day with the meeting of the Government with the Island Council.
On Thursday morning, the President of the Government presides over the presentation of the project for the new slaughterhouse, which concludes the cycle of investments in the modernisation of the slaughter network. He will also open the remodelling and expansion works of Calheta Health Centre and visit the site where the contract work for the improvement of the operating conditions of Topo Port is being carried out.
In the early afternoon, Vasco Cordeiro visits the construction site of the new Francisco de Lacerda Museum building and presides over the opening of Pau - Pique Agricultural Road in the Agrarian Planning Perimeter of Ribeira Seca - Norte Pequeno, ending this day with the meeting of the Council of the Government.
On the third day of the statutory visit to São Jorge, Vasco Cordeiro will open the rehabilitation works of the Occupational Activities Centre of "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Calheta, an institution with which the Government will sign a cooperation agreement under the Solidarity in Movement programme.
The programme of this statutory visit, as usual, also includes visits by members of the Government to ongoing investments on the island as well as meetings with various local entities.
The presentation of the upgrading project for Ponta/Sete Fontes Agricultural Road, the signing of agreements for the elimination of architectural barriers in homes owned by elderly people or people with reduced mobility, the delivery of individual protection equipment to the Velas fire brigade and the opening of a Fast Charging Station for electric vehicles are some of the initiatives included in the programme of the Government's visit.
During this statutory visit, the Government will also present the Annual Programme of Health Professionals' Travels for 2020, sign commitments for the creation of the Local Intervention Networks in the municipalities of Velas and Calheta and open a training session under the Parenting Workshops project.
