President of the Government praises performance of young Azoreans in National Skills Championship

The President of the Government praised the performance of young Azoreans in the 44th National Skills Championship, which ended last Friday in Setúbal, emphasising that the 14 medals won by the Azorean participants "are a victory of their commitment and dedication."

The event involved the participation of about 400 competitors from all over the country within the scope of the 44 professions in competition. The Azorean representation, composed of 17 young people, won 14 medals in this competition, including four gold medals, eight silver medals and two bronze medals.

“These young Azorean competitors, as in previous championships, stood out for the results achieved,” Vasco Cordeiro stressed, pointing out that this performance made the “Azores the region of the country with the highest percentage of winners” in this national competition.

“The results achieved in Setúbal increase the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won by Azoreans to 114 since 2004. They also reflect the Regional Government's investment in vocation education over the years, but they represent, above all, a victory for the commitment and dedication of young competitors," Vasco Cordeiro.

For the President of the Government, “the young Azoreans who received training in the Region's vocational training schools have, therefore, a remarkable track record of very good results,” which are also due to the efforts undertaken by teachers and leaders of these schools.

The Azorean competitors who were part of the Portuguese delegation were selected for this national competition in this year's edition of the Regional Skills Championship held last November in Praia da Vitória, Terceira Island.

The Skills Championships are competitions aimed at young people aged between 17 and 25 with the primary purpose of demonstrating the individual level of skills, rigour and mastery of techniques and tools deemed necessary for the practice of each profession in competition. In this context, participants perform practical tests that are assessed according to rigours criteria and the technical precepts established internationally by jury panels composed of highly qualified experts.
