Azores may become privileged area between two continents with strong bullfighting tradition
“The Azores may become a privileged stage between two continents with a strong bullfighting tradition, Europe and America, allowing the dissemination of tourism and the Azores destination as the platform for international tourism we wish to achieve.” This is the belief of the Regional Development for Agricultural Development, Joaquim Pires, who attended, on behalf of the President of the Regional Government, the opening session of the 9th World Conference of Bull Breeders for Bullfight.
Under the theme “Azores between two continents with a strong bullfighting tradition,” the initiative gathers bull breeders and bullfighting aficionados from nine different countries to Terceira.
Hence, Joaquim Pires says that “with the communication, the exchange and the knowledge brought by this initiative, we will be able to benefit our bull breeding and simultaneously to assert ourselves as a dynamic centre for the organisation of worldwide events.”
“Being the wild bull the main element and reason for the existence of bullfighting culture, this conference is an initiative that aims to consolidate the continuity of this show and the development of bullfighting culture,” stated the Regional Director.
The cooperation with this world conference was very important for the Azorean Government, according to Joaquim Pires, who also stressed the Government’s support to this activity.
“The bull breeder is the cornerstone of the development of bullfighting culture, which is a fantastic fusion of colour, movement, art and beauty which combines the intense emotion we feel for bullfighting, especially on the island of Terceira,” emphasised Joaquim Pires.
“This conference, which is now in its ninth edition, is a joint organisation of the Terceira Bullfighting Club, the Portuguese Bullfighting Bulls Association and the Regional Association of Bull Breeders for Bullfight on Rope takes place on Terceira until Saturday.
