Ponta Delgada ,  October 30, 2017

Basic Skills Acquisition courses already promoted employability of 8,200 Azoreans

The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training stressed today that the Basic Skills Acquisition (ABC) courses have already covered 8,200 Azoreans, thus "enhancing their employability and professional recognition." These courses were created by the Azorean Government with the aim of providing adults with more qualifications and better levels of education.

Paula Andrade spoke in Ponta Delgada at the opening of the seminar "Adult Education: challenges and possible responses." This year, the ABC courses "certified this year 715 adults and, currently, they are being held on seven islands."

Due to their innovative educational tools, the ABC Courses, one of the measures included in the Azorean Agenda for Employment Creation and Business Competitiveness, received in "Learning Throughout Life" national prize in the end of 2016.

The recognition of this measure, implemented from 2012 by the Government Vice-Presidency, considered that the results achieved and their management in the future are sustainable insofar as they will create other initiatives and opportunities.

Regarding the National System for the Recognition, Validation and Certification of Professional Skills (RVCC System), Paula Andrade revealed that "1,249 Azoreans have been certified for secondary level since 2012."

The RVCC System aims to improve the levels of school certification of people over 18 years, who have not completed basic or secondary level schooling, privileging learning throughout life.

Developed in the Region through "Valorizar" network, the RVCC project offers the possibility to certify knowledge and skills resulting from the experience that participants have acquired in different contexts throughout life, providing the certification of skills.
