The Regional Director for Youth revealed on São Miguel today that the Azorean Government will invest 30 thousand Euros in the implementation of the “Summer in Motion” (Verão em Movimento) project this year, starting next week at the Portas do Mar in Ponta Delgada.
At the public presentation of this project, which was created by an initiative of the Regional Government two years ago, Bruno Pacheco underlined that the “Summer in Motion” project will take place from June to September, comprising the entire Archipelago.
The Regional Director explained that, with this year’s increased number of partnerships, the project intends to promote sport and healthy living habits, through the implementation of the following sub-programmes “Azores Moving” (Açores a Mexer), “Azores at the Sun” (Açores ao Sol) and “Healthy Summer” (Verão Saudável).
Bruno Pacheco also mentioned that the “Azores Moving” sub-programme, intended to give dynamism to 15 beach areas of the Autonomous Region, which are properly equipped with safety equipment, includes extreme sports activities and group games.
Furthermore, the Regional Director for Youth emphasised that the “Azores at Sun” sub-programme, promoted by the Tetrapi Youth Association, will be divided into three sections addressed at children and youngsters, adults and its dissemination through the local media.
Bruno Pacheco explained that the “Azores at the Sun” sub-programme aims to the raise awareness for the dangers of the sun, as well as for the importance of protecting the body from it, and to motivate youngsters for issues related to Science, promoting the use of the experimental method in order to develop a critical spirit and observation skills.
Regarding the “Healthy Summer” sub-programme, the Regional Government intends to instil healthy living habits in children, youngsters and families, through dynamic teaching strategies that reduce risk behaviours which are on the origin of certain diseases.
