Press release from the Regional Health Authority

The Regional Health Authority reports that the 875 tests conducted by the two laboratories of reference in the Azores did not detect any positive case of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

Regarding active positive cases, there are seven new cases of recovery from infection with SARS-CoV-2 on the island of São Miguel, corresponding to 37-year-old male and six females aged between 1 and 97.

Among the recovered cases, three are residents at the Nursing Home of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Nordeste aged between 95 and 97. Currently, there are no positive cases among the users of this residential structure for the elderly.

At the moment, there are no active positive cases admitted to regional health facilities.

So far, 146 positive cases for infection with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the COVID-19 disease, have been identified in the Region, with 121 recovered cases, 16 deaths and nine active cases:  eight on São Miguel Island and one on Pico Island.

Pandemic prevention and containment measures should be maintained and reinforced, whenever possible, by citizens, private and social organisations, and by the social sector.

In addition to the daily briefings of the Regional Health Authority, the      information on the COVID-19 pandemic will be updated Tuesday, May 26, through a press conference at the headquarters of the Regional Health Secretariat at Solar dos Remédios in Angra do Heroísmo.

The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, patients should not seek a Hospital or Health Unit, but rather call the Azores Health Line - 808 24 60 24.

The Regional Government also provides the Azores Non-Medical COVID-19 Information Line -800 29 29 29 -, which operates every day of the week from 8 am to 8 pm, and the RIAC Line - 800 500 501 -, which is available from Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 10.30 pm, and on Sundays from 10 am to 10.30 pm.

For psychological support, the COVID-19 Psychological Support Line - 800 296 296, which operates every day of the week, can be contacted between 10 am and 8 pm.
