The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport announced today in Santa Cruz das Flores that the Government is reviewing the legislation regulating tourism leisure activities in the Azores.

Speaking to journalists at the end of a visit to the company West Canyon, Vítor Fraga recalled that the Government should "create the conditions to regulate the development of these activities." In this regard, he stressed that "the revision of the current legislation is being prepared in order to regulate several tourist products as well as to simplify and streamline procedures, and reduce the burden of tourism leisure companies."

The Regional Secretary also reminded that the Region has its own legislation for maritime-tourism companies, but their activities are regulated by national legislation.

According to Vítor Fraga, the ongoing revision is intended to adapt legislation to the reality of the Azores, through the regulation and improvement of the regional tourism offer. Hence, the Region will be able to offer "differentiating and quality products that will contribute to the construction of a truly sustainable destination, which is a goal we work towards every day.”

Moreover, Vítor Fraga noted the considerable increase in the number of tourism leisure companies in the Region, which, on the one hand, "demonstrates the potential" for the development of various activities and, on the other hand, "the initiative of our entrepreneurs and their investment in specific tourist products."
