Social partners reach consensus on new economic growth challenges in the Azores

The Vice-President of the Government stressed the unanimous recognition of social partners with regard to the new phase of economic growth, employment creation and unemployment reduction in the Azores, also pointing out the consensus reached on the new challenges motivated by this reality.

"There is a consensus between social partners and political parties already heard regarding the fact that we have effectively entered a new phase and a new reality in the Azores," stressed Sérgio Ávila. The government official spoke this morning after the scheduled hearings with social partners and political parties at Santana Palace, at the invitation of the President of the Government of the Azores, Vasco Cordeiro, to prepare the proposals for the Plan and Budget for 2018.

"If the effort undertaken in terms of public measures was intended to resume economic growth and job creation in recent years, I believe that all social partners and political parties we have heard so far agree on the fact that the Region has effectively registered a strong economic growth; there are higher growth prospects over the next few years," said the government official.

In this context, the Vice-President stressed that "there are new challenges to overcome and, therefore, we must direct our actions and public policies to these new challenges towards the consolidation of economic recovery and consolidation of employment growth," always in joint and coordinated efforts.

"Today, all partners and parties are unanimous about the effective growth of employment and the reduction of unemployment," said the government official. "If employment creation was our priority in the past, right now our priority is to continue the efforts to further strengthen employment creation" and "focus progressively on the quality of employment" so that it may be "better paid" and "more stable."
