Regional Government is working on solutions for the Azores and the Azorean people - Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government said today that the Government is perfectly aware of the situation we are living in the Azores due to the establishment of regular contacts with the Azorean population and regional companies. In this context, Vasco Cordeiro assured that the Government will continue working on solutions for the Region.
"The Government is aware of the exact situation of Azorean families and companies, and the need to continue working to provide them solutions," said Vasco Cordeiro at the Legislative Assembly in Horta.
"We know that the Government cannot do everything, but we also know that the Government everything within its reach to provide a response to the situation the Azores are currently living," assured the President of the Government.
In his speech delivered at the plenary session, Vasco Cordeiro stressed that recent years have demonstrated the evolution of the situation the Azores is living as a result of the allocation of "resources to address the situations that Azorean citizens are facing."
According to the government official, the Regional Government allocated an amount over 18 million Euros between 2009 and 2013 to two measures implemented in the Azores - the Family Allowance Supplement and the Supplement for the Supplement for the Purchase of Medicine.
"The support was provided to Azorean families and elderly citizens. Both measures have helped people overcoming this difficult phase," the President of the Government said, adding that the Azorean Government allocated over 24 million Euros last year to another measure - the Regional Pension Supplement.
"This support measure benefited the elderly, particularly those who are in a situation of increased vulnerability, by helping them to overcome the difficult moments we are living," said Vasco Cordeiro. As he revealed, the initial value of this measure increased 20% between 2009 and 2013.
Vasco Cordeiro also stressed that in the case of Private Social Solidarity Institutions, the overall public funding increased this year from 52 million Euros to 53.6 million Euros.
"We should ask ourselves this question: where would we be if the Regional Government had not created support measures to help the Azorean population?" concluded the President of the Government.
