The investment project of Lajes do Pico Health Centre has just been approved under the financial contribution from ERDF structural funds under the Azores Operational Programme (PO Açores 2020).
 
The intervention in Lajes do Pico Health Centre, an investment of about 850 thousand Euros, is the latest project approved by the Vice-Presidency of the Government.
 
This is a significant remodelling intervention that will allow us to create an adequate response to continuing care needs as well as the conditions for the quality certification of this health unit.
 
The project provides for the general rehabilitation of inpatient services and the creation of a physical therapy centre, including a gym and individual boxes, changing rooms, sanitary facilities and showers.
 
The intervention will also cover meal service areas, outpatient services, which will include a dental office.
 
The awarding of the contract work is scheduled for October 22, followed by the immediate transfer of services to the old secondary school to begin the works.
 
In the scope of the regular operation of the Health Centre, there have already been adaptation interventions in the alternative building that will accommodate the majority of services while the works in the health unit are being carried out.
 
In the current 2014-2020 programming period, the Government of the Azores has approved nine public investment projects amounting to 23.8 million Euros in infrastructures and equipment within the Regional Health System.
 
The investments in question benefit from a substantial financial contribution of 20.2 million Euros from the ERDF structural fund under the PO Açores 2020 programme, with the remainder being funded under the Regional Budget.
 
The construction of the new Ponta Delgada Health Centre, an overall investment of 17.6 million Euros, and the improvement of Santa Cruz das Flores Health Centre, a contract work amounting to more than 1.6 million Euros, are other approved investments.
