Sérgio Ávila satisfied with growing number of projects developed under SIDER and "Empreende Jovem"

The Vice-President of the Government of the Azores conveyed his satisfaction with the approval of 32 new investment projects under the programmes SIDER and "Empreende Jovem" (Youth Entrepreneurship), representing a total investment of 21 million Euros and the creation of 55 jobs.

Sérgio Ávila considered that this is an "evidence of the added value brought by these programmes to entrepreneurs and the youngsters that wish to build their lives, such as the case of "Empreende Jovem." It is also a sign that difficult times must be faced with determination and confidence."

According to the Vice-President, the projects approved correspond to applications submitted for investments to be implemented in the archipelago, which is a "very positive and encouraging" fact.

These projects will be primarily implemented in the areas of tourism, including the accommodation, tourist animation and restaurant sectors, trade and services.

With regard to the Incentive Scheme for Regional Development (SIDER), 17 new projects were approved under the Subsystem to Support Local Development, representing a total investment of 2.5 million Euros, while five new projects were approved under the Subsystem to Support Tourism Development in a global investment of 2 million Euros.

In the case of the Subsystem to Support Strategic Development, the four approved projects correspond to a 15.5 million Euro investment.

The "Empreende Jovem" programme, which is specifically designed to support business creation projects developed by young entrepreneurs, aims to create a venture culture and stimulate entrepreneurial spirit. Under this initiative, a total of six applications were approved, representing a global investment of one million Euros and the creation of nine jobs, five of which will be filled by women.

Sérgio Ávila revealed that until now, 838 applications have been submitted under SIDER, which corresponds to a 510.5 million Euro investment and the creation of more than 2,500 new jobs.

The "Empreende Jovem" programme has already approved 191 projects in a global investment of 33.5 million Euros, creating a total of 459 new jobs.
