Significant increase of exports to Madeira is possible, says Sérgio Ávila

The Vice-President of the Government conveyed today his belief that "it is possible to significantly increase" the export capacity of Azorean products to the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

Sérgio Ávila pointed out the proximity between both archipelagos as well as the fact that Madeira is an "attractive market because it imports the products with export capacity."

"There is great potential here,” said Sérgio Ávila. The government official spoke at the end of a meeting with the Regional Secretary for the Economy, Tourism and Culture of the Government of Madeira, Eduardo Jesus, and with the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Azores, Mário Fortuna.

Included in the visit of the President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, to the Azores, the meeting also addressed several aspects of the trade relations between both regions.

"The Government of Madeira expressed its full availability to actively contribute to the dissemination of the Azores Brand," Sérgio Ávila said, adding that this promotion may increase demand not only from Madeira inhabitants, but also from tourists visiting the archipelago.

For the Vice-President, "brand promotion, strengthening of the link to distribution chains and increased competitiveness in terms of transport are factors that, combined, could boost the export capacity of the Region and reinforce another essential aspect, which is the link between the two archipelagos."

"From now on, we will work together for this goal," said Sérgio Ávila.
