Regional Government extends employment maintenance support in the tourism sector to nine months

The Regional Government, through the Vice-Presidency, has decided to increase support for companies in the tourism sector, within the scope of the Employment Maintenance Programme, with the aim of further encouraging the maintenance of employment and aid to activity to regional tourism companies.

In practice, the Government will extend the employment maintenance support to nine months, for each worker, thus reinforcing the "support for tourism companies to maintain their jobs until the end of this year.

The Employment Maintenance Programme is an innovative measure that allows Azorean companies to receive a non-refundable grant from the Regional Government to make the payment when reimbursing the funds obtained under the lines of credit created to help the business community in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This measure falls within the strategy towards the progressive recovery of the economy in the Region defined by the Regional Government. It not only relieves the treasury of Azorean companies during the reimbursement of funding, but also ensures that the use of specific COVID-19 lines of credit will not entail the indebtedness of companies.

This is another important contribution of the Regional Government to help companies overcoming the challenges of the current situation by increasing support for companies and creating more incentives for the return of business activities to normal levels, with reduced costs and more conditions to ensure maintenance and stability of existing jobs.

Hence, in the pursuit of a sustained economic recovery, the Regional Government creates an additional support measure aimed at Azorean families and companies, implementing innovative and exceptional support, which represents an added advantage over the country.

For further information, interested parties should contact the Regional Directorate for Support to the Investment and Competitiveness by telephone 296 309 100 or at the email draic.empresas@azores.gov.pt.
