Regional Government already supported more than 8,500 jobs under the Employment Maintenance Programme

The Vice-President of the Government announced that the Regional Government has already approved 706 applications under the Employment Maintenance Programme. It intends to ensure that Azorean companies using national lines of credit will benefit from additional support to repay these funds, thus substantially reducing their financial burden and improving their liquidity.

“Under this measure made available by the Regional Government, which covers all sectors of activity of the regional economy and almost all Azorean companies, 706 applications have already been approved, ensuring the maintenance of 8,567 jobs,” said Sérgio Ávila.

In fact, the Employment Maintenance Programme, an innovative measure at national level, creates conditions for the injection of liquidity into the Azorean economy and enhances the national measures implemented in the Azores. Moreover, it improves the liquidity of companies and contributes to the reduction of costs, so that they can maintain their level of employment until the end of the year, without any redundancies.

This extraordinary measure grants additional non-repayable support, which may be allocated in conjunction with other national and regional incentives that are currently in force.

"It ensures the use of lines of credit without increasing the indebtedness of Azorean companies, while facilitating the access to credit and the decision-making process of financial institutions," stressed the government official.

Companies wishing to benefit from this Employment Maintenance Programme, after approval of bank financing, must submit their application to the Regional Directorate for Support to the Investment and Competitiveness (DRAIC), using the form provided on its website.

The support measures now implemented will provide for a non-repayable grant corresponding to nine minimum wages, in the case of tourism companies, or six minimum wages, in the remaining cases, per worker, plus Social Security contributions. It will be paid to companies in quarterly and constant instalments.

The amount of support corresponds to a percentage that varies in accordance with the size of the company: 65% for micro-companies, 45% for small and medium-sized companies and 30% for the remaining.

Accordingly, micro-companies will benefit from a non-repayable grant up to 5.9 minimum wages per worker, plus the corresponding Social Security contributions. As for small and medium-sized companies, the support will be up to four minimum wages per worker and in the remaining cases 2.7 wages per worker.

This innovative measure at national level is yet another effort to create structural and differentiating measures within the reach of the Regional Government's powers, thus endowing companies with better conditions and increased support when compared with other companies in the country.

With the measures recently made available to the business community, the Regional Government enhances the conditions and incentives to prevent Azorean companies from making redundancies. Additionally, it provides incentives and support to help companies maintaining their workers at residual costs so that they may progressively overcome this period of adversity.
