Regional Government stresses the importance of organising joint strategies with local authorities

The Vice-President of the Government praised on the island of São Miguel on Sunday night the importance of institutional cooperation between local authorities and the Government, based on resource sharing which may generate multiplying effects in the accomplishment of common goals.
Sérgio Ávila spoke at the solemn session to celebrate the 488th anniversary of the municipality of Lagoa and mentioned the good example of that municipality to highlight the advantages of combining common strategies in order to benefit the population. In the case of Lagoa, the Vice-President said that this spirit of cooperation should be continued and even reinforced, since the priorities of this municipality are the same as of the Region in terms of development, sustainable growth and reinforcement of its production base.
During the celebration of another anniversary of the municipality of Lagoa, the Town Hall honoured several local citizens, who have distinguished themselves in the field of social work, commerce, sciences and civic participation.
Hence, Sérgio Ávila considered that the best way to celebrate the history of a community with a long and brilliant history is to perpetuate the memory and respect for the past; to be proud of the present and to have the capacity to envisage the future.
The Regional Secretary stated the fact that the municipality of Lagoa has over 50 active social, sports, cultural and recreational institutions, which is a clear demonstration of the strength and dynamics of a community.
For the Vice-President of the Regional Government, the confidence in the future of Lagoa will be strengthened with the goals announced by its local council, with special emphasis on development, innovation, competitiveness and employment. The point is not to merely enumerate what has been achieved, but to reflect on the accomplished goals to envisage goal that must be achieved in the future so that Lagoa may reinforce its role in the context of São Miguel Island and even of the Region, mentioned Sérgio Ávila. The Vice-President concluded that, in addition to the strategic obligation of cooperation, the Government, sharing the same goals, will certainly continue to share the successes of the municipality of Lagoa.
