Praia da Vitória ,  August 03, 2018

Praia da Vitoria registers sustained development in tourism and business attraction

The Vice-President revealed in Praia da Vitória that another international company in the field of new technologies has already installed in this municipality. This is the sixth to invest in the island under the "Terceira Tech Island," a programme promoted by the Regional Government under the economic revitalisation measures in face of the reduction of US forces at Lajes Base.

"At the moment, this extremely solid project in Praia da Vitória has already created forty duly qualified jobs in the area of programming," said Sérgio Ávila.

"The interest of companies in programmers demonstrates that this is the right path," the government official said, adding that the project is already "a success" in terms of employment and its ability to attract companies to Terceira Island in the area of programming.

Following the Regional Government's commitment to the qualification and retraining of human resources, Sérgio Ávila pointed out that it will be possible to place 200 people in the labour market by the end of 2019.

In this regard, the Vice-President stated that the 'Terceira Tech Island" project has the potential to make Praia da Vitória a "national and international reference" in the programming sector.

"What was a dream in the past is the reality of the present," stressed the Vice-President. In this regard, he pointed out the results already achieved and the partnership established with the municipality of Praia da Vitória in this project, which also includes the redevelopment of old infrastructures within Lajes Base for the installation of companies and provision of training.

At the opening of the 19th Atlantic Gastronomy Fair, an event held under the municipal festivities, the Vice-President also highlighted the growth of tourism on the island and, in particular, in the municipality of Praia da Vitória. According to him, these festivities have also contributed to this development.

Sérgio Ávila emphasised that today there are reasons for Praia da Vitória inhabitants to celebrate "the future" due to the investment dynamics registered in this municipality, which is the result of the efforts "undertaken by all parties involved."
