At the end of the match, Sérgio Ávila received an award, on behalf of the President of the Azorean Government, delivered by Auditon Moniz, President of the Ponta Delgada Football Association, which acknowledges the Government’s support to the organisation of this tournament.
This competition was created to pay tribute to the Azorean football player Pauleta, the best scorer in the history of the Portuguese football team, with 47 goals. The Pauleta Trophy has also contributed to the promotion of sport and to the external projection of the Azores.
The first Pauleta Trophy, held in 2009, was won by Benfica which defeated Santa Clara 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out.
