Economy and household income grow in the Azores above national average

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP), an indicator that shows the evolution of economy and wealth generation, grew up in the Azores last year above the national average and the same happened with household disposable income. The data were released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

For the Vice-President of the Government, these figures "show a clear recovery in economic activity" in the Region. He stressed that they represent an "economic growth that is more than twice what it was in the previous year," which consolidates "our perception recession period has gone."

According to data released by INE, the actual GDP of the Azores is at 1.7% in 2015, while the country had a lower growth (1.6%).

In terms of value, the regional GDP in 2015 stands at 3,785 million Euros.

Sérgio Ávila stressed that this rate of growth of GDP "is considered, in international terms, a reference value from the point of view of growth of economic activity," adding that, "by the indicators we have," will be strengthened in 2016.

The Vice President also welcomed the growth of the Gross Disposable Income (GDI) "per capita" of Azorean families, which is also above the national average.

In 2014, the year released by INE, Azorean families had a GDI "per capita" of 11,303 Euros, while the national average is at 11,225 Euros.
