Azores increase number of projects put to voting under Participatory Budget of Portugal
The Azores currently have 32 projects put to voting under the Participatory Budget of Portugal (OPP). The Government of the Azores is a partner of the National Government in this initiative.
These projects comprise areas such as Internal Administration and Civil Protection, Science and Technology, Culture, Sport and Youth, Economy, Education, Health and Social Solidarity, among others.
In the context of this initiative of participatory democracy, and similarly to the previous year, each citizen will be entitled to two votes: one for a regional project and another for a national project.
The 32 Azorean projects, 25 more than last year, are available for consultation and voting on the OPP website on at https://opp.gov.pt/proj until September 30.
Citizens may also vote by sending a free text message to the number 3838, with the identification of their favourite project number.
The format of the message should be: OPP <space> project number <space> Civil Identification Number.
The 2018 State Budget has provided the Participatory Budget of Portugal (OPP) with a budget of five million Euros, of which 625 thousand Euros will allocated to the implementation of projects in the Azores.
This year, and considering that the first edition of the Participatory Budget of the Azores (OP Açores) is underway, the Region has more than 1.2 million Euros at its disposal for the implementation of public investment projects proposed by citizens. Provisional results will be made public on June 25.
The Participatory Budget of Portugal aims to strengthen the quality of Democracy, involve citizens in decision-making processes and stimulate economic and social cohesion, fostering the emergence of projects linking people from different territories.
