3rd Iberian-Atlantic Symposium on Regional Statistics takes place on Terceira Island this week
The 3rd Iberian-Atlantic Symposium on Regional Statistics will be held in Angra do Heroísmo on October 22 and 23.
The two-day meeting, promoted by the Regional Statics Service of the Azores, will gather representatives of statistics institutes from several peninsular and Atlantic regions of Portugal and Spain for a joint reflection on the production and dissemination of regional statistics.
The symposium allows the debate and analysis of issues related to regional and quarterly accountancy in addition to the challenges of official statistics.
The meeting, where the METAMAC and CONTRIMAC projects will be presented, is the result of the general assumption that the available statistical data should progressively enable a reading framework regarding the regional dynamics adequate to the various types of users, especially in a context rapid change imposed by globalisation and by the information and knowledge society.
In turn, the increased influence and power of the regional governments, the regional policy tools at a European and national level, and a greater and better use of Community funds entail the use of regional planning tools that require statistical data at an increasingly level of geographical disaggregation.
Hence, the 3rd Iberian-Atlantic Symposium on Regional Statistics aims to contribute to this reflection by sharing and confronting different realities and experiences.
