Ponta Delgada ,  November 30, 2015

Regional Government promotes urban crafts markets in Angra do Heroísmo and Ponta Delgada

The Urban Craft Market (MUA) will be present, for the first time, in the city of Angra do Heroísmo between December 5 and 8 from 10 AM to 6 PM.
The initiative is promoted by the Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Centre for Handicrafts (CRAA), and has the support of the Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo.

MUA will be held on rua da Esperança. It features ten exhibition and commercial spaces that will showcase several pieces in different styles, from design to contemporary crafts. This initiative aims not only to increase the visibility of Azorean craft activities, but also to renew and revitalize their image.

The first edition of MUA in Angra do Heroísmo features artisans Ricardo Simas, Sílvia Teixeira, Francisco Pereira, Ana Cota, Madalena Costa, Márcia Ávila, Susana Almeida and Ana Rocha, who will showcase works in pottery, jewellery, wood and textiles, among others materials.

Between December 5 and 8, the Urban Crafts Market will be open in Ponta Delgada, which is already in its fourth edition.

This is also an initiative of the Vice-Presidency of the Government, promoted by the Regional Centre for Handicrafts, in partnership with the Walk & Talk Association and in collaboration of the Municipality of Ponta Delgada and SATA.

At Largo da Matriz, artisans Paula Sousa, Ana Goulart, Horácio Raposo, Émile Smith, Zenaida Vieira, Ana Maria Medeiros, Deolinda Soares, Sónia Fonseca and Sandra Ferraz will showcase pieces in patchwork, knitting, tin and wood as well as nativity scenes in "lapinha" (sea-themed nativity scene).

On 6 December, a workshop on tin works guided by artisan Deolinda Soares will be held at the Kiosk from 3 to 5 PM. On December 8, artisan Paula Sousa will conduct a workshop on creative sewing from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. On the same day, artisan Sandra Ferraz will showcase nativity scenes at 6 PM.

Those interested in participating in these activities should make their registration 24 hours prior the date of the workshop at the address [email protected].
