Regional Government works persistently to improve transport of passengers and goods

The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport revealed the new Public Service Obligations (OSP) for inter-island air and maritime transport of passengers, vehicles and cargo on a roll on roll off system will enter into force in October.

Vítor Fraga spoke to journalists at the end of a speech on the Region's tourism potential that was delivered under the 1st Business Meeting of the Azorean Diaspora. In this context, the government official stressed that the Regional Government is "working persistently" to find "a solution in the area of transport that will boost the mobility of goods so that they bring added value to their target markets in terms of consumption."

The Regional Secretary for Transport noted that the Regional Government wants to find "a good solution for the transport of goods and passengers," having submitted revision proposal of Public Service Obligation to the National Government since May 2012. Moreover, the Government has also created a Transport Integrated Plan which includes the revision of Public Service Obligations for inter-island air transport and the establishment of Public Service Obligations for the maritime transport of passengers, vehicles and cargo on a roll on/roll off system.

With regard to the 1st Business Meeting of Azorean Diaspora, Vítor Fraga stressed that he had the opportunity of verifying that entrepreneurs from Azorean communities demonstrated "great interest and special preference" for the Region.

In this regard, he conveyed his expectations that this interest "may be translated into investments that can bring added to the Region."
