Ponta Delgada ,  March 29, 2019

Regional Government delivered six off-road vehicles to PSP

The Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works delivered in Ponta Delgada six off-road vehicles to the Public Security Police (PSP), an investment of about 191 thousand Euros.

"It is our understanding that the public security forces must be supported, taking into consideration their key role in providing public service to ensure security of the Azorean population," stressed Ana Cunha at the vehicle delivery ceremony.

The Regional Secretary pointed out that the delivery of these vehicles "falls within the financial support amounting to more than 1.5 million Euros already allocated to PSP, through the Regional Land Transport Fund, with the aim of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the work "carried out by this security force.

According to Ana Cunha, the support "is not only intended for the acquisition of vehicles and equipment, but also for the upgrading and recovery works in infrastructures, such as the recovery of police stations in the municipalities of São Roque do Pico, Velas, Madalena, Praia da Vitória, Ponta Delgada and Nordeste. These interventions represented an investment of about 300 thousand Euros."

With regard to equipment, Ana Cunha stated that "the support granted, amounting to more than 87 thousand Euros, is intended for the acquisition of computer equipment to be used by police bicycle units and rapid intervention teams as well as of traffic monitoring and operational equipment."

For the Regional Secretary, this partnership and the institutional collaboration between the Government and the PSP "represents what is really fundamental from the Regional Government's standpoint." In this regard, she stressed that "security forces in the Azores must continue carrying out their public security duties with all the technical means deemed necessary to the adequate performance of duties for the benefit of Azorean citizens."

In this context, the government official assured that the Regional Government will do everything within its reach "to continue searching for the best solutions to the needs of security forces in the Azores," to which she thanked for the "work carried out for the benefit of residents and those visiting the archipelago."
