José Contente strengthens relations with Madeira Technology Park for future partnerships
The Regional Secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures visited today the Madeira Technology and Science Park. The visit aimed to create a better understanding between both Autonomous Regions in the area of technological parks.
José Contente, in addition to establishing contacts with the park’s management entity, also visited some of the companies which are based or operate at that technological park.
With this visit, the Regional Secretary, who was accompanied by the Regional Director for Science, Technology and Communications, intended to strengthen relations with the Madeira Tecnopólo, creating conditions for future partnerships, not only with the anonymous society that manages it, but also with the companies operating the areas of scientific research and of technology and innovation.
The meeting with the Tecnopólo’s managers is included in the wider context of visits that have been recently paid to the various science and technology parks throughout Mainland Portugal.
One must remind that the Region will soon launch the public call for tenders to build a technological park on São Miguel in the town of Lagoa. The Regional Secretariat for Science and Technology is currently revising architectural and speciality projects along with other logistic details.
Simultaneously, a process to create a science and technology park is taking place on Terceira Island, where the recently created Biotechnology and Biomedicine Institute of the Azores will be installed.
Regarding the development of the Regional projects to implement the Technological Parks, the Azores will prepare the application for the integration in the International Association of Science Parks (IASP), based in Malaga, Spain.
The IASP is a worldwide network of science and technology parks that brings closer well-known professional parks in this area, aiming to provide services that will lead to the growth and consolidation of several associates.
