São Roque do Pico ,  May 20, 2016

Investment in Pico road network reaches 2.7 ME in this legislative period, reveals Vítor Fraga

The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport revealed today that the investment in the road network of Pico Island already reaches 2.7 million Euros in this legislative period.

Vítor Fraga spoke after visiting the works for the redevelopment of the east entrance road to São Roque do Pico as well as the second phase of the works for the redevelopment of Pico "Longitudinal" road of Pico Island.

"If we take into account these two contract works to all those that have been carried out this term, we are talking about a global investment amounting to 2.7 million Euros, to which we should add up two million Euros from the first phase of "Longitudinal" road of Pico Island," stressed Vítor Fraga.

Regarding the redevelopment of the east entrance road to São Roque do Pico, the Regional Secretary said this work is "falls within the interventions to improve the road network of Pico Island." In this context, he added that it "includes the rearrangement of the road in order to increase circulation levels and enhance safety, namely for pedestrian traffic."

As for the contract work of the "Longitudinal" road, this intervention is intended to "upgrade the entire pavement in order to improve the safety levels of road traffic. This is another intervention that adds up to the series of investment that the Regional Government has made on the island of Pico throughout this legislative period," noted the Regional Secretary.

"With these investments, we have done what is essential for the regional road network of Pico Island, thus ensuring proper safety conditions for road traffic," said the Regional Secretary.
