The Government of the Azores wants to create, in the Region, “an athletes' nursery” that contributes to thicken the row of the sport and to qualify the presence of Azorean teams in competitions abroad.
The objective of the Executive was expressed on Sunday in the night by the regional secretary for Housing and Infrastructures in the signature of a protocol between the Casa do Povo of Arrifes and the Águia Clube Desportivo, in the framework of the program “Escolinhas do Desporto”.
In the line of what it was announced recently by the president of the Government, Carlos César, José Contente guaranteed that the Executive is still going to be more committed on the training of the youngest athletic standards.
“It is therefore that the protocol now signed reflects a great lucidity and intelligence, since that is the way to follow”, he thought.
In the opportunity, the Casa do Povo handed over to the Águia Clube Desportivo a check in the value of 40 thousand euros to help to the placing of the synthetic floor in the playfield of the club, built in a land that was given up by the Regional Secretariat for Housing and Infrastructures.
José Contente emphasized the importance of the establishment of partnerships in the sport, reiterating the will of collaboration of the institutions, which don’t look to colours nor to differences, but to the development of the parishes and of their populations.
He pointed out equally that the Azorean Executive finds the sport fundamental for the reduction of the morbidity, increase of the capacity of resistance to the diseases and in the direction of the people for nobler values.
“There are values that the Azorean society needs cultivating to live healthier and healthier and in a more cohesive way, a society that highly values and preserves the cultural identity that is strong but that needs to be fed and the sport is an essential factor in this matter, because it represents a life school”, told the governor.
