Government supports the publication of scientific articles in world-renowned magazines
The Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures, will open an application to support the publication of scientific articles in world-renowned magazines.
“This is an application to support the production of the so-called papers, which are widely used tools among the scientific community for the dissemination of its knowledge as well as for the accreditation of scientific institutions,” mentioned José Contente.
The Regional Secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures spoke at the presentation of the book “Dos Vulcões dos Açores/From the Azores Volcanoes,” by Vítor Hugo Forjaz, emphasised the government’s contribution to scientific dissemination, particularly through the Regional Scientific and Technological Development System (SCTR).
In this context, the Regional Secretary mentioned that “the (SCTR) has promoted the knowledge dissemination as the Regional Government considers, especially during this legislative period, that it is necessary to take a new step in the area of scientific knowledge.” This increase in the knowledge activity contributes to “the implementation of the benefits of an informed society in the economic sector, which allows companies to create qualified employment and, thus, raising the Azores to new development level through a more sustainable economy.”
Furthermore, the Regional Secretary reiterated the support to the University of the Azores as fundamental partner in the development of the Azores and to all those who work in the Science Centres of the Region, as poles of attraction and dissemination, which represent new possibilities for the scientific community.
José Contente also stressed the intention of the Regional Secretariat “to undertake all the Government’s financial effort in a society that clearly understands the need for a greater involvement in the so-called scientific and technological cluster of the Regions.”
With regard to the book that was presented at the Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive on Thursday night, the Regional Secretary considered that “given its quality, it is a recommended reading to nurture the spirit of all those who acknowledge our Region, our specificities in geodynamic environments. I congratulate the authors, who have an established reputation, and who have lent their knowledge to a scientific dissemination work.”
On the theme addressed by the book, the Regional Secretary stated that is another important contribution to the development of geotourism in a region known for its Volcanoes, “which are a main concern in terms of safety, but also a potentiality, associated to a our volcanic geomorphology as well as to the specific context of our Region.”
