The Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures, through the Regional Directorate for Science and Technology, has opened the application period for two calls for tenders to purchase scientific equipment for the Research and Development (R&D) units in the Azores.

Enhancing even more the growth of the accredited R&D scientific units and creating condition for the sustained development of specialised R&D centres are the main goals of the recently launched calls for tenders, ensuring better conditions for researchers and enabling the access to new scientific and technological resources, as well as to modern and good quality equipment.

On the other hand, improvements in laboratory infrastructures will boost the implementation of new qualified scientific and technological research guidelines, thus being an attraction factor for researchers.

The launching of the calls for tenders regards Measure M1.1.3, which establishes the scientific renewal of the scientific equipment of the accredited R&D units, and Measure 1.2.3, which supports the purchase of scientific equipment for the specialised R&D centres.
Both measures aim to support the renewal of the equipment of the regional R&D scientific units, through a funding specially created for the purchase, renewal, expansion and installation of equipment.

The period to submit applications opened on last Friday and will take place until September 8, 2009.
