The Government of the Azores will approximately invest 116 thousand Euros in the improvement of the safety conditions of regional road network with the purpose of reducing the accident rate in the Region.
With to the São Miguel Island, the Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures, through the Regional Directorate for Infrastructures and Inland Transport, will purchase 15 passenger shelters.
In the case of Flores Island, the Government will acquire bidirectional “cat’s eyes,” vertical and special signals, including road delineators, flat cones and speed bumps in some sections of the roads in order to ensure the protection of the vehicles circulating on these roads. In addition, these measures will also include the painting of vertical and horizontals signals.
These contract works will be carried out not only to create comfort and safety conditions for both pedestrians and vehicles, but also to reinforce information and promote the awareness of road users for the respect of the Highway Code.
