The regional secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures announced, today, the fulfillment next year, probably in the island of Santa Maria, of an exercise meant for testing the co-ordination of the active emergency teams in the Azores.
After a meeting, in Ponta Delgada, with the Vice-Admiral Carvalho Abreu, new Operational Commander of the Azores, José Contente added that along with the planning of joint actions it also is important the development of special emergency plans to face “limited and specific sceneries that apply for specific answers”.
On the meeting with the contact person of the main organ of the three branches of the Armed Forces in the Azores, the regional secretary said that he allowed “combining specific actions as part of the Civil Protection”.
At issue there will be, namely, subjects connected with the cooperation, which is claimed more and more efficient, between the Armed Forces and the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service, he indicated.
José Contente enhanced, on the other side, the commitment of the Government in the Digital Cartography of the Region, included in the Google Earth and in the Virtual Earth of the Microsoft, which he considered an important contribute for essential areas to the Navy and to the Armed Forces in general.
As he said, the European Space Agency station (ESA) of Santa Maria, in collaboration with the National Centre of Sea Vigilance of the Northern Atlantic, will be going to be able to load new informations for scenery of global security of the Region.
