The Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures (SRCTE) will award an individual post-doctoral fellowship in marine biology, or in similar areas, in the Research and Development project (R&D) which is being developed under the theme “Climate Change and its Implications for the Marine Life of the Azorean Sea.”
All those whose work focuses on global climate change and its effects on oceanic phytoplankton communities, particularly on the effects of increasing concentrations of atmospheric carbon dioxide in the marine bio-geochemical cycles, are eligible applicants for this fellowship.
Analysing the effect of CO2 increase on phytoplankton communities in the Azorean sea and studying the response of phytoplankton community to the increase of nutrients are the main goals of the fellowship. The preparation of a detailed study of the mechanisms involved in the sensitivity of the most affected species by rising CO2 levels after its identification and isolation is another practical component that this project aims to develop.
The work will be developed at the Climate, Weather and Global Change Studies Centre of the University of the Azores in collaboration with the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, the Leibniz-Institut für Meerswissenschaften an der Christian-Albrechts Universität zu Kiel (IFM-GEOMAR, Germany) and the Marine Biological Association (MBA, England).
Applications must be submitted to the Regional Directorate for Science, Technology and Communications until June 12, through the site http://www.azores.gov.pt/Gra/sctr/.
