Regional secretary for science, technology and infrastructures giving a speech

Government launches the challenge of new technological and pedagogic solutions for the future

The regional secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures considered, today, that the existence of schools of modernity and the confirmation of an excellence vocational training constitute two important vectors of the development of the Azores.

José Contente, who was speaking in representation of the president of the Government in the ceremony of inauguration, in Rabo de Peixe, of the new building of the Vocational School of Ribeira Grande, launched, therefore, the challenge for a continued commitment in new technological and pedagogic solutions, namely, the e-working, which will be able to be assumed like a new opportunity for the Azorean society, and the e-learning and b-learning as part of the business world.

Equipped with modern technological solutions, that vocational school represents one more example of the preoccupation of the Government of the Azores in the modernization of the school infrastructures and in the strong commitment in the vocational training like alternative to the regular teaching, it told José Contente, for whom the institution has all the conditions to tread ways of modernity and of future that allow an economy of innovation in the framework of a society of information and knowledge.

The governor remembered that, in the validity of the socialist governments, 18 vocational schools were built in the Azores that already gave training to nearly seven thousand pupils and he emphasized the government strategy of concentration of efforts in Rabo de Peixe to break with the cycles of poverty of the town, adding that “we are celebrating with conscience, but also, with satisfaction, projects that brought to this town a new dimension, a new perspective, a new future, challenges that this school today, also, embodies”.

José Contente still said that “the Azores came out from the tail of the comparison with other regions because they have been known having a project that is supported in economical solid bases, but without ever having lost, of its horizon, the social problematic”.
