The Government of the Azores has already invested 60 million Euros in the renewal of the roads of Terceira Island, with intervention that exceeded 200 kilometres.
The figures were revealed in Cabo da Praia, Angra do Heroísmo on Friday by the Regional Secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures at the opening of the renewal works of a section of the regional road that runs through that village.
According to José Contente, with this investment the road system of Terceira “returns to normal” and brings new comfort and safety conditions.
“Sometimes there are more controversial interventions, such as the Via Vitorino Nemésio, but nowadays we may notice that the largest structuring way of the Azores is also a qualifying mark for Terceira, representing modernity and, above all, security for whom passes by it,” underlined the José Contente.
The Regional Secretary also stated that the Government is “always concerned with what is left to be done” and stressed that interventions in Cabo da Praia are included in a wider plan to renew the entire road up to the village of São Sebastião.
In this context, José Contente announced that project concerning the renewal work of road within the adjacent village of Porto Martins will start shortly.
With a total cost of 450 000 Euros, this interventions includes, in addition to the repaving and alignment of the road, the construction of speed bumps on the intersection as well as of parking bays.
