Government carried out renewal works on five bridges on Faial Island to reinforce security
In the context of road safety measures in regional roads, the Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures has carried out renewal works of the safety walls of the Cascalho bridge in the village of Cedros on the island of Faial.
With this intervention, this governmental department has concluded the renewal works of five bridges that showed visible signs of degradation. After the technical inspection deemed necessary for determining the interventions in the road infrastructures on Faial Island, the renewal works of the aforementioned bridges are thus concluded.
Striving for ensuring the safety and modernisation of the regional bridges, the Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures has replaced the safety walls that were made of stone masonry and clay for reinforced concrete, thus maintaining the existing features whenever possible.
One should remind that this governmental department carries out an annual inspection to regional bridges to analyse the entire structure and check if they meet all required items in order to ensure the drivers’ maximum safety.
