Eurovision Sports Summer Games bring to the Azores over 400 athletes

The Azores will host the Eurovision Sports Summer Games from August 30 to September 6. The initiative is organised by the television and radio stations of Operating Eurovision and Euroradio. This year's edition will be held on the island of São Miguel.

"The event give us the possibility of not only showing to those who will us the best we have to offer and our hospitality, but also of projecting the Region outside its borders," said the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport. The government official spoke during the presentation of the event, stressing that "the 12 television stations and their collaborators involved in the organisation of the games will be naturally a vehicle for the projection of the Azores."

Vítor Fraga stressed that these games fall within the strategy for the promotion of the Region in the organisation of large-scale event. They will "contribute to increase the flow of visitors to the Azores as well as to project the Region to increase the number of tourists in the medium and long term."

The government official noted that "this is clearly an investment made by the Regional Government in the promotion of the Azores and the increase of tourism flows.

"The excellence of our tourism offer and our hospitality will certainly impress of all those who will visit us and we are certain that they will be the ambassadors of this destination in their countries," added the Regional Secretary.

Moreover, Vítor Fraga conveyed his wish that "these games be a success not only at a sports level, but also at a social and cultural level." The government official also hopes that all who will travel to the Azores may "bring with them a positive image of the Region and become ambassadors of the destination abroad."
