Azores guarantee Red Bull Cliff Diving 2018, announces Vítor Fraga

The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport revealed today that the Azores will continue to host a stage of the Red Bull Cliff Diving competition for two years, until 2018.

Vítor Fraga spoke in Lisbon at BTL - International Tourism Fair, where he signed with Red Bull the protocol that ensures the organisation of this event in the Azores in 2017 and 2018.

In his speech, Victor Fraga stressed that the competition held in the archipelago in 2015 has promoted 107 million contacts, which means that "the Azores reached 107 million people through this event."

"The figures speak for themselves," the Regional Secretary said, adding that, for this year, "the expected impact is always greater insofar as the success of these events lies in our ability to consolidate them."

"This is the consolidation path we have following, not only with Red Bull but also with other reference events in the Region such as the Azores Airlines Rallye, the Surf World Championship and trail competitions; the latter have registered a considerable growth and projection in the community that practices this activity, reaching every corner of the world," said the Secretary for Tourism.

Vítor Fraga recalled the repositioning of the Azores Destination carried out in recent years, noting that "today we are in a situation that everyone knows, with a sector that has a great dynamics and is living a new momentum. We are certain that everyone will continue to contribute to this growth."

"We signed the agreement with Red Bull to bring Red Bull Cliff Diving to the Azores in the context of the repositioning of the destination and the change in the way we communicate with potential tourists," the Regional Secretary said, noting that it is "an event that today one can hardly conceive removing the Azores from its stages."

In this regard, he stressed that "the Azores reflect the return to its roots" as "when these diving competitions began, divers jumped directly from the rocks and the tradition has been recovered in the Azores."
