The Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructure invited Globe Star System to integrate the NEREUS European Network in a meeting that took place Wednesday in Ponta Delgada with the President of the Canadian multinational corporation, David Tavares.
After this formal invitation, the representatives of Globe Star System will be able to attend the next General-Assembly of NEREUS, scheduled for the 13th March in Brussels. The Regional Secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructure, José Contente, said that there they will be able to "analyze the existing projects of NEREUS with a view towards the possible participation of the Government of the Azores in some of these projects."
José Contente said that "we invited Globe Star System, which has an Azorean at its helm, to analyze the possibility of new opportunities in its operational domain."
The Secretary said that the Azores, through the efforts of its Government, is a founding member of the association that represents the European Regions that use space technologies. Given this fact, the Azores has the "capacity of federating new entities in the NEREUS network so that they are able to participate in very important European projects."
The NEREUS network now includes other participants that were invited by the Regional Government of the Azores, namely, EDISOFT and INOVA.
NEREUS is responsible for initiatives related to the Galileo project, observation of the Earth and in the domain of IT and communication in general.
The Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructure has developed a close relationship with Globe Star System in such projects as the monitoring and protection of data, one of which to be used by the Civil Protection Services and one other for the monitoring of gases in the Furna do Enxofre, on the island of Graciosa.
