Regional Cohesion Fund

The Regional Cohesion and Economic Development Support Fund, known in its abbreviated from as the Regional Cohesion Fund, is an organisation which has been granted administrative and financial autonomy and operates under the Regional Secretary for the Economy.

It is a public fund which first appeared after the demise of the Regional Support Fund for Economic Activities. It includes a series of instruments for intervening in public affairs with the aim of promoting economic, social and territorial cohesion and includes new powers, specifically in the field of public-private partnerships, operating in ways which enable state investments to help optimise the economic potential of municipalities and islands where, due to market conditions, private investment is less substantial, seeking in this way to boost local organisation of respective local economies.

In addition to assuming some of the powers of the former Regional Support Fund for Economic Activities, the new Fund has also taken over some of the responsibilities of the Regional Transport Fund, particularly in relation to support measures for air and maritime transport.
