The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity reiterated in Lagoa the announcement made today at the presentation of the press release from the Council of the Government, stressing that the Government is preparing legislation to create the Regional Commissioner's Office for Childhood.
 
Andreia Cardoso spoke at the closing session of the Regional Meeting of the Regional Commissions for the Protection of Children and Youth (CPCJ). The government official stressed that the Government "has already conducted an initial analysis to the Proposal establishing the Regional Commissioner's Office for Childhood, a regional entity whose mission is to protect and promote the rights of children and young people in the Azores.
 
Acknowledging the transdisciplinary nature of the intervention in this area, the Regional Secretary added that it is a "regional structure with representatives from different governmental departments, public and private entities with intervention in the areas of childhood and youth and civil society. It will be responsible for the planning, coordination, monitoring and assessment of the promotion of children and young people's rights in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
 
Andreia Cardoso stressed that the Commissions for the Protection of Children and Youth are "privileged actors in the promotion and protection of childhood," noting that the Government of the Azores "acknowledges what should be its role in supporting the activities developed by these commissions."
 
In this regard, the Regional Secretary reiterated the intention to keep the training plan for the members that make up the regional commissions. She defended the "need for the standardisation of work tools and the renewal of these tools as well as for a reflective analysis on their performance with the aim of supporting the consolidation of practices or the adoption of new procedures."
 
"We must pass on the message that committees exist and that they carry out a serious and crucial work in child and youth protection," said Andreia Cardoso.
