Regional Government reinforces prevention and dissemination of Support Line Against Violence

The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated today that the Regional Government has been promoting an exhaustive campaign against domestic violence and the dissemination of the Support Line Against Violence (800 27 28 29), namely through dissemination Regional Campaign Against Domestic Violence on video and audio format.

Andreia Cardoso spoke at the Legislative Assembly, by video conference, during the debate on a draft resolution for the protection of domestic violence victims. On the occasion, she stressed that “the regional campaign against domestic violence began on November 25, following its public presentation. On that date, a video spot featuring an inclusive approach began to be disseminated on social networks, namely through Facebook and Youtube."

“The campaign image was also disseminated through social networks in November 2019 on the profiles of the institutions that make up the Networks and Centre for the Prevention and Combat to Domestic Violence, being also shared by other institutions and even on personal profiles,” added the government official. In this regard, she stressed that the initiative included “the design of 8x3 and 4x3 billboards to be displayed throughout the Region."

The Regional Secretary also noted that, “more recently, on April 14, RTP/Açores channel and Antena 1 Açores radio station were requested to broadcast this institutional campaign, which began on April 19.”

Regarding the audio spot, Andreia Cardoso mentioned that, besides public radio, it is also being broadcast by two other regional radio stations since Wednesday, while, as concerns the written press, it began to be disseminated this week in four regional newspapers.

Andreia Cardoso acknowledged the importance of this theme, particularly in this phase of social isolation, in view of the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country and in the Region, since “this scenario poses new challenges to domestic violence in the Region.”

"The Regional Government has made a clear commitment to focus on prevention and disseminate the resources available in the Region, emphasising the message that the fight against domestic violence depends on each and every one of us and that the support to the domestic violence victims remains in place," said the government official.

The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity revealed that the overall number of identified cases for intervention and support for domestic violence victims stood at 41 cases in the first four weeks of confinement, registering a steady trend in the number of identified situations, with an average of 10 new cases per week.

"As for the cases that required the intervention of the aforementioned Networks and Centres, about 46% were referred to the Public Security Police -PSP, followed by the cases where the victim asked the Network for help, corresponding to 24%," said the government official.

In a growing percentage of cases, it was the community itself that activated the request for help, about 17%, while less than 10% of cases identified by Social Services were not referred to Health entities.
