Isabel Almeida Rodrigues appointed President of the Commissioner's office for Childhood by the President of the Azores

By proposal of the Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity, the President of the Government appointed lawyer Isabel Almeida Rodrigues as President of the Azores Commissioner's Office for Childhood. Recently approved by the Legislative Assembly, this organisation aims to defend and promote the rights of children and young people in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
 
Isabel Rodrigues graduated in Law at the University of Lisbon. She holds a Postgraduate degree in Protection of Minors from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and in Social Sciences, with specialisation in Family Ageing and Social Policy, from the University of the Azores.
 
In addition to organising training courses for trainers and Quality Management at the Child and Youth Protection Commissions, she was the Regional Government representative at the National Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth at Risk. Fromm 2006 to 2007, she coordinated the Working Group on the Situation of Birth Rates in the Region.
 
From 2006 to 2008, Isabel Almeida Rodrigues also held the positions of coordinator and trainer of the Azores Training Centre of the National Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth at Risk. In addition, she organised and coordinated several courses on these subjects in the Azores and is a member of the Family Law Centre at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.
 
The Azores Commissioner's Office for Childhood was established by the Regional Legislative Decree no. 17/2016/A of September 28. It also includes a Regional Council that is composed of representatives of the Regional Government in the areas of Youth, Employment and Labour, Social Solidarity, Education and Health. Furthermore, there are other entities represented in this body: Attorney General's Office, the Association of Azorean Municipalities, the Regional Delegation of the National Association of Parishes, Security Forces, Private Social Solidarity Institutions, "Santa Casa da Misericórdia," Parents' and Tutors' Associations, and Azores Youth Associations.
