The achievement of the I Days of the Biotechnology and Biomedicine Institute of the Azores (IBBA) represents a “consolidation of the scientific investigation and of the knowledge as base of development of the Region”; it considered, today, the regional secretary for Social Affairs.
In the opening of the meeting that joins till Friday, in Angra do Heroísmo, nearly a hundred investigators of the Regional Scientific and Technological System around the presentation of 70 scientific works, oral and posters, Domingos Cunha enhanced “the capacity and the energy” demonstrated by the several institutes and services fitted in the IBBA, formally constituted in July of this year.
Sponsored by the Government of the Azores, the IBBA is a partnership of investigation and development (I&D) that includes, as scientific partners, the Specialized Service of Epidemiology and Molecular Biology of the Santo Espírito Hospital of Angra do Heroísmo, E.P.E., the Molecular Genetics and Pathology Unit of the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital of Ponta Delgada, E.P.E., and the University of the Azores, represented by the Biotechnology Centre of the Azores, IMAR/DOP Centre, Investigation and Natural Resources Centre and Agrarian Investigation and Technologies Centre.
The secretary underlined that the investment of the Executive in the scientific field will be equally “stimulated” with the construction of the next technological park of Terceira Island, to be built in the attached lands to the current buildings of the university pole of Terra Chã, appointing one of the subjects in analysis in the present meeting.
Referring the importance of the establishment of the partnerships between the entities above-mentioned, Domingos Cunha set the challenge to the private enterprise that, in his opinion, “must be associated in the search, not only of more knowledge gains, but especially in the creation of new products, services and investigation that consolidate the economical development of the Region”.
