Government moves ahead with construction of six houses in Lombas Allotment – 2nd Phase
The Government of the Azores will move ahead with the construction of 6 of the 12 estimated houses to be built in the Lombas Allotment – 2nd Phase on Santa Maria Island.
The announcement was made today by the Regional Secretary for Labour and Social Solidarity during a visit to the place where the houses will be built.
According to Ana Paula Marques, this initiative intends to bridge a gap in the housing sector on Santa Maria and to settle youngsters from that island in their homeland.
On the occasion, the Regional Secretary also announced the renewal of all the green spaces in the allotment and the construction of the first playground in Vila do Porto.
Furthermore, the Government will move ahead with the project regarding the Ginjal Allotment to build controlled-cost housing as well as built for purchase housing.
The renewal of degraded housing and of the historical, cultural and building heritage is one of the Government’s priorities, which according to the Regional Secretariat for Labour and Social Solidarity should be “recovered and preserved.”
Ana Paula Marques added that the Government intends to review the current legislation on the support to degraded housing.
Meanwhile, the Housing Services of Santa Maria Island will be transferred to the Social Security’s facilities in Vila do Porto.
