Government invests over 600 thousand Euros in the construction of two social infrastructures on Faial
The Government of the Azores is investing 620,000 Euros in the construction of a Day Centre in the village of Conceição and a Night Centre in the village of Flamengos on Faial Island.
The information was provided by the Regional Secretary for Labour and Social Solidarity on Tuesday during a visit to the works of these two support infrastructures for the elderly.
In the case of the village of Conceição, one of the three villages of the city of Horta, the infrastructure under construction is the first to be exclusively built to function as a Day Centre that will support 40 elderly.
According to Ana Paula Marques, the works have an estimated cost of 300,000 Euros and it is expected to be completed within a year.
For the Regional Secretary, it is a device that as “fundamental importance” to the city of Horta as the elderly will be have the possibility of having a meal or taking care of their personal hygiene at the Day Centre.
This is an initiative that the Government is promoting on various islands as it is “proximity service that allows families to improve the support provided to the elderly,” stated Ana Paula Marques.
In addition, this infrastructure also includes a kitchen, a laundry and two bedrooms where the elderly may spend the night when necessary. As the Regional Secretary explained it will be “a Day Centre with some of the features of a Night Centre in the village of Conceição.
Regarding the village of Flamengos, Ana Paula Marques revealed that the first Night Centre under construction, to be completed by July, is part of an “ambitious project” in the context of the Divino Espírito Santo Community Centre.
According to the Regional Secretary, this infrastructure, which is the first Night Centre located in a rural village on Faial, will cost of 320,000 Euros. Moreover, at a second stage, a day nursery will be built in Flamengos, whose project is already being developed, with an estimated cost of one million Euros.
With these investments, the Government aims to provide an “adequate social response,” solving all social needs of Faial Island, stated the Regional Secretary.
