Future day nursery in Flamengos to enter into operation in the second half of 2013

The opening of the day nursery of the Divino Espírito Santo Community Centre in Flamengos is expected to open in the second half of 2013. This work has an estimated cost of approximately one million Euros.

The information was released today by the Regional Secretary for Labour and Social Solidarity during a visit to the construction site.
With capacity for 80 children, Ana Paula Marques noted that this infrastructure in the area of childhood is a response to the current waiting list in that village.

"At a time when the National Government cuts social support from the poor, the Azorean Government, through its own funds, continues to reinforce the support to people and families, whose income has been declining due to the current economic situation," the government official stated, adding that "this is how we will continue to work: support those who need the most."

At the occasion, the government official also recalled the support provided by the Azorean government to children and youngsters, the elderly and people with disabilities.

In this context, Ana Paula Marques mentioned the example of Faial island, stating that in 1996 there were only 5 infrastructures in the area of childhood and youngsters with capacity for 191 people; currently, there are 21 infrastructures with capacity for 467 people.
