Andreia Cardoso says response to homeless people on Terceira will be adequate to identified needs

The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated in Angra do Heroísmo that, with the entry into operation of Abrigo Amigo Shelter, a shelter for the homeless rehabilitated with the Regional Government's support, we have "the conditions to provide an adequate response to the needs of homeless people."

"The capacity to be installed meets the needs of the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo," Andreia Cardoso stressed, adding that the municipality of Praia da Vitória already provides a response in this area, with the collaboration of "Santa Casa da Misericórdia." The government official spoke at the end of the opening of the new shelter run by the social institution "Confederação Operária Terceirense."

The Regional Secretary also visited the works of the building where the temporary shelter for the homeless will be installed. It will be located in the building adjacent to the shelter opened today.

The ongoing work represents a public investment of around one million Euros. In this regard, Andreia Cardoso added that the shelter will have capacity for 24 people and is expected enter into operation by "mid-2016."

The Government of the Azores is still working on another project with "Confederação Operária Terceirense" towards the "re-installation of the Free Time Occupation Centre and some other services." This will improve the institution's working conditions in the area of childhood, whose licensing application has already been submitted to Angra do Heroísmo City Hall on February 15.
