Training for safe return to schools

The Regional Government is developing an extensive training programme covering all regional public schools as part of the various measures it is implementing for the safe return to activities in the opening of the school year, scheduled for September 15.

In July, the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture sent to all public schools a guiding document designated as "Safe Return to Schools," which includes educational and health guidelines for the preparation of the new school year.

With the aim of ensuring that teachers and non-teaching staff are prepared for the opening of the school year in the current situation, the Regional Secretariat for Health, in conjunction with the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture, has been developing an extensive training programme in various areas since September 2.

The training, which takes place in the two weeks preceding the opening of the school year, is aimed at teachers responsible for the implementation of contingency plans in each school as well as at operational assistants.

This plan already includes more than 1,600 professionals from regular and vocational education.

The training actions focus on school organisation, accessibility, organisation of spaces, support services and protective behaviours, namely the use of masks, hand hygiene, physical distance, respiratory etiquette and the disinfection of spaces and surfaces.

To support training and awareness-raising activities for students and guardians, informational materials were developed in electronic format, which will also be disseminated in the common spaces of schools, focusing on prevention measures adapted to each age group.

Based on the guiding document “Safe Return to Schools” and its contingency plans, all educational establishments are preparing school spaces to ensure not only the cleaning and disinfection of surfaces, equipment and structures, but also the necessary social distancing; the latter will be achieved by placing specific signs, creating specific circuits, defining rules for the use of common spaces and organising work areas.
