Rui Luís congratulates 80 young doctors beginning their training in the Azores and ensures conditions for medical training

The Regional Secretary for Health welcomed the 80 interns who began their training this week in the Regional Health Service. In a letter sent to young doctors, he congratulated and thanked these professionals for having chosen the Azores to continue their professional training path.

"I am sure that the Azores, in general, and the Regional Health Service, in particular, have specific challenges and opportunities that will allow these interns to develop professional and personal skills that are different from any place in the country," said Rui Luís.

In statement to journalists, the Secretary for Health expressed confidence that the Azores "are more than a place of temporary training, consisting of an ideal place to live and work with quality."

Rui Luís added that these professionals can count on the commitment of the Regional Health Service to create the conditions for this purpose.

As for the 80 interns who are now starting their training in regional health units, 46 begin general training and 34 start specific training.

The Ponta Delgada Hospital received 33 doctors for general training and 15 for specific training, while 11 young doctors began general training and 14 started specific training at the Santo Espírito Hospital on Terceira Island.

In turn, the Horta Hospital received a total of six doctors: two for general training and four for specific formation.

The specific training comprises several hospital specialties. Additionally, 13 interns will begin their training in General Practice and one in Public Health.

Regarding General Practice interns, six will receive training in São Miguel Island Health Unit, three in Terceira Island Health Unit, three in Faial Island Health Unit and one in Pico Island Health Unit.

These 80 doctors who are now starting their training in the Azores will join the other 128 doctors already in training, making up more than two hundred interns in 2019.
