Regional Civil Protection Emergency Plan of the Azores under public consultation in May

The Regional Secretary for Health announced at the Legislative Assembly that, after consulting civil protection agents, the Regional Civil Protection Emergency Plan of the Azores will be under public consultation in May.

"The updating of the current plan was a priority of this Government. It took about a year and three months to be drafted and, at the moment, it has been completed," said Rui Luís. He added that the "plan will comply with legal provision during the month of May, namely a 30-day period of public consultation."

Rui Luís spoke during the debate on a draft resolution for Regional Civil Protection Emergency Plan of the Azores, stressed that this document is not prepared overnight.

"The Plan has been prepared since early 2017, as publicly announced by the President of Civil Protection Department. According to him, the works would be completed by the end of the first quarter. As the stipulated has been met, the Regional Government has managed to fulfil the commitments assumed under the Programme of the Government," said the government official.

As for the section on risk classification, the Regional Secretary clarified that it has been requested the collaboration of the Centre for Information and Seismovolcanic Surveillance of the Azores (SIVISA), the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and the Regional Directorate for the Environment.
